Released in November 2003, Remixed & Revisited revisited the confrontational electronic world of American Life from several different directions. The seven-track EP reshaped Nothing Fails, Love Profusion, Nobody Knows Me and American Life through new rock, electronic and club treatments, while also preserving Madonna’s 2003 MTV Video Music Awards performance with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. Into the Hollywood Groove, created with Missy Elliott, folds elements of Hollywood and Into the Groove into a new hybrid, while the collection closes by reaching further back into Madonna’s archive with Your Honesty, an unreleased song written and recorded with Dallas Austin during the Bedtime Stories sessions. Rather than functioning as a conventional remix record, Remixed & Revisited feels like an addendum to American Life: part reconstruction, part live document and part archival excavation.
