UK No. 1 (four weeks) | US Dance No. 1

Written for a film, never released as a US single, and still one of the greatest dance records she ever made.

The Song

Madonna and Stephen Bray wrote and produced “Into the Groove” — originally with another singer in mind — and Madonna recorded it for Desperately Seeking Susan, the film in which she starred. It was added to the 1985 international reissue of Like a Virgin.

The Video

There was no specially made video: the clip was put together from scenes of the film.

The Charts

In the UK it was Madonna’s first No. 1, staying there for four weeks. In the US it appeared only as the B-side of “Angel”, yet still topped the dance chart. Read more on Soundtrack Records.
