Acoustic guitar, a soft beat and a voice closer than ever: “Secret” introduced a gentler Madonna in 1994.
The Song
It began as a demo by Shep Pettibone called “Something’s Coming Over Me”, which Dallas Austin reworked into a different song. Its lyric hints at a secret — the realisation that happiness comes from within.
The Video
Melodie McDaniel filmed the video in black and white in Harlem, with Madonna singing in a small club.
On Stage
It was performed on the Drowned World Tour in 2001.
