“Erotica” opens with a crackle and a whisper: Madonna as Dita, the dominatrix alter ego of her book Sex, inviting you in.
The Song
Recorded in four different versions before the final one, it grew out of the Sex book. Produced with Shep Pettibone, it samples Kool & the Gang’s “Jungle Boogie”.
The Video
Fabien Baron filmed it in grainy, Super 8 style, intercut with scenes from the Sex shoot. MTV aired it only late at night.
On Stage
It opened The Girlie Show World Tour in 1993.
