The Song
“Everybody” was the first of Madonna’s demos to get attention, after DJ Mark Kamins played it at Danceteria. Kamins produced the released version, and Sire Records signed her on the strength of it. It closes the album where her story began.
The Video
Ed Steinberg’s low-budget clip shows Madonna and her dancers performing in a club — the first time most people saw her.
The Charts
It did not reach the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 7 on the Bubbling Under chart, but it was a club hit that set everything else in motion.
