Strings, a sigh and a curtain call: “Take a Bow” closes Bedtime Stories with an elegant goodbye.

The Song

Developed with Babyface at his home studio in Beverly Hills, it is a lush, orchestral ballad about a lover who has only been playing a part.

The Video

Michael Haussman filmed it in Ronda, Spain, with the bullfighter Emilio Muñoz, in a period setting that later helped win Madonna the role of Eva Perón in Evita.

The Charts

It spent seven weeks at number one in the US — her longest-running American chart-topper. In the UK it reached number 16, ending a run of 35 consecutive top-ten singles.
