Notes

If Ray of Light opened Madonna into space, Music compresses everything back into the machine. The album is shorter, sharper and more mischievous in construction, full of vocoders, digital interruptions, acoustic guitars and unexpected collisions. Its cowgirl imagery deliberately complicates the futurism beneath it: rural iconography wrapped around some of the most synthetic music Madonna had yet recorded. The contradiction is the point.

THE STORY

A reflection on the record — what it meant, what it revealed, what it left behind.
