Notes

Released in November 2001, GHV2 gathers Madonna’s major singles from the period following The Immaculate Collection, tracing the arc from Erotica and Bedtime Stories through Ray of Light and Music. Unlike its predecessor, the compilation included no new recordings, instead presenting a tightly selected overview of an extraordinarily changeable decade in Madonna’s work.

Tracks such as Erotica, Secret, Take a Bow, Frozen, Ray of Light, Music and Don’t Tell Me place reinvention at the centre of the collection, documenting a period in which Madonna moved repeatedly between club music, R&B, electronica, balladry and experimental pop. The result is less a conventional greatest-hits package than a snapshot of an artist whose sound, image and creative priorities had been in almost constant motion throughout the 1990s and into the new millennium.
