Released first as a promotional track in 2019, I Rise later became part of the Madame X singles story, especially through remixes and radio release in selected markets. Built around survival, resistance and self-assertion, the song opens with a sample of Emma González, the Parkland school shooting survivor and activist, immediately placing the track within a broader political and social frame. It was released promotionally on 3 May 2019 and later sent to Italian radio on 4 October 2019.
I Rise deserves careful placement in the Madame X archive because it shows the era’s activist spine. It may not function like a conventional pop single in every territory, but it is central to understanding the project’s moral atmosphere. This is Madame X not as fantasy alone, but as protest signal.
