The covers below are gathered from my personal ICON collection, preserving a visual record of Madonna’s official fan club magazine and the eras it documented.

ICON, the official Madonna fan club magazine, belongs to that earlier world of pop devotion: a world of membership forms, recognised envelopes, printed photographs, tour reports, exclusive interviews, letters, competitions and fan testimony. It was not simply a magazine about Madonna. For members, it was a point of contact, a signal that you belonged to an organised community built around her work, image, tours and reinventions.

The issues shown here come from my own collection. I own ICON issues 15 through 37, including a continuous run across two official binders. Together, they capture a crucial stretch of Madonna history: the 1990s into the early 2000s, from the aftermath of Erotica and Bedtime Stories through EvitaRay of LightMusicGHV2 and the Drowned World Tour. These were not quiet years. They were years of transformation, vocal authority, motherhood, spiritual atmosphere, electronic reinvention and a renewed command of live performance.
